Across the South West Region of Cameroon, valuable cultural artifacts, traditional crafts, and historical archives are disappearing due to a lack of safe, dedicated community facilities. The "Establishing Regional Heritage Spaces" campaign by CRUDEF directly funds the construction and equipping of regional cultural centers in key hubs like Buea and Kumba. By investing $65,000.00 into these permanent heritage spaces, we provide local artisans, elders, and youth with secure venues to preserve historical treasures, host cultural workshops, and sustain Cameroonian heritage for generations to come.
In many towns across the South West Region, centuries of physical culture—hand-carved royal thrones, ancient musical instruments, traditional woven textiles, and historical manuscripts—are kept in fragile, informal storage. Without dedicated spaces to safeguard these items, invaluable historical artifacts are frequently lost to climate damage, neglect, or displacement. Furthermore, young people growing up in urbanizing areas like Buea have few public spaces where they can meet traditional custodians, learn indigenous arts, or connect with their regional history.
Community identity suffers when historical anchors are lost. Local craftspeople lack dedicated workshops to showcase their work, and elders have no central venues to teach traditional governance, music, and craft techniques to the next generation.
To create a permanent home for regional culture, CRUDEF launched the Establishing Regional Heritage Spaces initiative across key cultural hubs in the South West Region.
Through this initiative, CRUDEF is securing land and constructing multi-purpose regional heritage centers equipped with climate-resilient display areas, artisan workshops, and community archives. These centers serve as active cultural hubs where local master craftsmen teach woodcarving, weaving, and traditional music to youth, while local assemblies hold inter-generational storytelling events. By creating safe, community-managed spaces, we protect Cameroon’s physical history, generate local tourism opportunities for artisans, and ensure future generations remain deeply connected to their cultural roots.
