However, economic hardship in areas like Bamenda and Kumba has historically prevented master artisans from taking on young apprentices, leaving skilled youth without viable vocational pathways.

Preserving Skills Through Paid Apprenticeships

Through the Supporting Local Artisans & Traditional Crafts initiative, CRUDEF builds structured bridge programs connecting master craftsmen directly with unemployed rural youth.

1. Master-Apprentice Partnerships: Funding toolkits and material stipends that allow experienced artisans to mentor young apprentices full-time without financial strain.

2. Hands-On Skills Mastery: Teaching young men and women traditional wood selection, carving motifs, natural dyeing techniques, and loom weaving.
